STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES AND POLICIES

The Waunakee Community School District will comply with all state regulations concerning the transportation of regular education students and students with disabilities. All transportation arrangements will be made by Lamers Bus Lines in coordination with the Waunakee Community School District.  

The Transportation handbook shall be distributed to all students, parents/guardians, teachers, school bus drivers, and school administrators to be used as a quick reference guide on transportation rules and guidelines. ELIGIBILITY FOR TRANSPORTATION SERVICESThe Waunakee Community School District provides transportation for: 

1. Students attending Arboretum who reside more than 1.0 miles from school or east of Hwy 113. 
2. Students attending Prairie who reside more than 1.0 miles from school. 
3. Students attending Heritage  who reside north of Hwy 19, east of Hwy Q or more than 1.0 mile from Heritage (excluding Hwy 19/Q geographical area). 
4. Students attending the Intermediate School who reside north of Hwy 19, east of Hwy Q or more than 1.75 miles from the intersection of Aldora Lane and Woodland Drive.
5. The district shall provide transportation to students in grades 7 & 8 who live more than 1.75 miles from the intersection of Knightsbridge and South Street. For the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years only, streets that are hazardous to cross for 7 & 8 students include: Main Street; Division Street (south of Main Street); County Highway Q; portions of Woodland Drive, and Highway 113.  
6. The district shall provide transportation to students in grades 9-12 who live more than 1.75 miles from the intersection of Knightsbridge and South Street.  
7. Students who are placed in a special education program if the IEP team deems transportation necessary for the safety of the child. 
8. Students who participate in the Early Childhood or 4K program.

Regular busing is defined as eligible students being picked up from home and taken to school and from school to home. All eligible students are automatically enrolled in regular transportation during the school year.

Services will begin on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 3, 2024 and continue until Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

There is no cost for this service for our families.

K-12 students requesting transportation for a location other than your home address, will need to register and pay for alternate transportation plans. Registration for alternate transportation is open on Monday, July 8 in the Infinite Campus School Store and closes on Friday, August 9 for service beginning the first day of school. There is a 2-week waiting period for all requests received after this deadline, no exceptions. All regular and alternate transportation bus routes will be mailed to families on August 23, 2024.

The Waunakee Community School District works in partnership with Lamers Bus Company to provide transportation to and from school for our families. All K-12 students that live within the transportation boundaries are automatically enrolled for transportation.

The nationwide school bus driver shortage continues to be a challenge for all bus companies and school districts. We appreciate the support from our families who have transported students to and from school themselves. If you are able to transport your student(s) in 2024-25, please indicate that by completing the following opt-out request.

District bus transportation is available for 4K students.  If you are requesting busing, the 4K site MUST be in your elementary attendance area (due to our three-building hub system).  

Arboretum Sites:  Adventures in Learning, Brilliant Beginnings, Mary Lake Montessori, Saint John's Preschool

Heritage Sites:  Inspire Early Childhood, Leap Academy, Peace Preschool, Saint John's Preschool

Prairie Sites:  Leap Academy, Moppet, Saint John's Preschool

The district will transport 4K students using the elementary bus routes.  Students will travel to their attendance area elementary school where they will transfer to the 4K bus to be transported to their 4K site.  Mid-day transfers will occur at each elementary school.  Students will wear backpack bus tags to easily identify them to school staff assisting the children.

Any 4K student riding the bus must request busing within the correct attendance area of the 4K site, and a request must be submitted using this link by August 9.

Students are required to purchase a Waunakee Community School District parking permit for the school year. This will be strictly enforced.

Students must have a parking permit to park in the student lots, and they may not park in staff parking (number spots) or visitor parking at any time.  Parking permits are available for Juniors and Seniors to purchase at this time through the Infinite Campus School Store. Please follow this step-by-step video to complete your parking pass request through Campus School Store. The permits can be picked up in the high school office beginning August 29th.  

Sophomores will be able to purchase a parking permit through the school store beginning September 5th.

The Waunakee Community High School does not offer a Driver Education Course as electives. There are several local driving schools that offer programs.
