The Waunakee Community School District Board of Education (BOE) approved a November 2022 referendum planning process. The Waunakee Community School District will work with our referendum partners to design and construct facilities approved by the voters on the November 8, 2022. Projects include a new Heritage Elementary School (opening Fall 2024) and Waunakee Community Middle School (opening Fall 2026). Waunakee Community Middle School - opening Fall 2026

Waunakee Community Middle School Visioning TeamWaunakee Community School District is committed to engaging teachers and support staff in the architectural design process. Our staff has unique insights into the needs of our students, and their participation in the design process ensures physical facilities support the district’s current and future curriculum. By involving these stakeholders in the design process, architects can create more functional and practical learning environments, helping to foster academic success.

Currently, Waunakee Community Middle School staff are working with a team of architects and designers from EUA in a "Visioning” process. This process involved a series of meetings over several weeks where staff members explore ideas, review designs, and provide feedback. It is important to remember that the EUA design team will gather input from all staff, not just the Visioning Team, during multiple stages in the design process.

The results of this process will be a creative and innovative middle school that supports Waunakee Community School District’s current and future curriculum, mission and vision, as well as student needs. By involving teachers and support staff in the design process, the school will truly be a learning environment tailored to meet all student and staff needs.

Waunakee Community Middle School Visioning Team Visits

The Waunakee Community Middle School Visioning Team recently toured several area schools for inspiration, brainstorming, and the latest innovative learning design. Middle school staff, administrators, and EUA designers toured the newly renovated and expanded Middleton High School, Forest Park Middle School (Franklin), Karcher Middle School (Burlington), and Waunakee Intermediate School.

Staff provided their feedback to the design team, which used the input to generate design ideas for subsequent Visioning Team meetings.

Heritage Elementary School - opening Fall 2024

The design of the new Heritage Elementary School is organized around three guiding principles, summarized below:

Heritage will be FUTURE FOCUSED. The design will be flexible, dynamic and will embrace evidence-based design practices.

Heritage will be WELCOMING AND SAFE. The design will foster learning by supporting an inclusive community and eliminating barriers to learning.

Heritage will be IMMERSIVE AND INSPIRING. A fun and engaging environment will inspire curiosity, inquiry, and exploration.

Heritage Elementary Groundbreaking Ceremony

Heritage Elementary Groundbreaking Ceremony - May 18, 2023

A groundbreaking celebration occurred on Thursday, May 18, 2023, to celebrate the beginning of construction on the new 152,000 square foot (sf) state-of-the-art school building at 6271 Woodland Dr, Waunakee. Attendees included members of the Board of Education, local officials, community leaders, design and construction partners, as well as faculty, staff, and students from Heritage Elementary School.

The new school building, to be completed in the fall of 2024, will support early childhood, kindergarten, and first through fourth grades. The new building features modern classrooms designed to support the latest in educational technology, four flex cafe spaces, and a full-size gymnasium. The building has been designed by Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA), in partnership with the school district and Heritage Elementary School Visionary Team, students, and school staff. Vogel Bros. Building Co. is the Construction Manager and builder.

Community Engagement Meeting - January 31, 2022

The school district held a community engagement session on Monday, January 31, 2022 as the beginning of the planning process with the community. The meeting was held in-person at the district office, while community and school members were able to view virtually via Zoom Webinar format or via YouTube. Proposals for Request for Land

Request for Proposal - Vacant Land

The Waunakee Board of Education (BOE) is continuing the long-term facility and maintenance planning for our school district. The BOE is currently planning for a November 2022 referendum. As a part of the long-term facility planning process, additional land purchases may be needed for a school site(s). The district would like to engage with the community for additional potential school sites. We are requesting proposals for vacant land within our school district community. Proposals are due in full and must be returned by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022. The mailing address is 905 Bethel Circle, Waunakee, Wisconsin, 53597.

Request for Proposal - Remodeling Project

The school district is accepting proposals for a minor remodeling project at 905 Bethel Circle, Waunakee. This project will include the addition of office spaces near the back of the district office building at 905 Bethel Circle. Specifications are available from Steve Summers, Executive Director of Operations, via email stevesummers@waunakee.k12.wi.us.
