The Waunakee Community School District (WCSD) provides appropriate programs and services for students who are identified as English Learners (EL) and are enrolled in District schools. 

WCSD currently has over 160 English Learners representing more than 15 different languages. The backgrounds of our multilingual learners are as varied as the languages they speak.  

WCSD is currently offering English as a Second Language (ESL) support and launched a bilingual program housed at Heritage Elementary School (K-3) and Waunakee Community High School beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. Plan for expansion of the program has already begun!

As a parent, guardian or student, you have the right to give permission or not give permission for the release of your child’s records with other persons or agencies. The Waunakee Community School District collaborates with the Dane County Department of Human Services, Catholic Charities, and several Dane County School Districts to offer Building Bridges.

Building Bridges services students in 4K-9th grade, and their families. They seek to support children's educational experience by working with students, families, community agencies, and school staff to develop and promote emotional wellness.

Our School Nurses and Health Assistants promote the health and safety of all students and coordinate and manage health needs of individual students during the school day. Each WCSD school has a full-time Health Assistant who works under the guidance and delegation of our three school nurses.

Waunakee Community School District partners with Bridging Brighter Smiles Inc, a non-profit organization that offers school-based preventative dental care.

Their vision is to create a community where every child is given the opportunity to receive preventative oral care. Bridging Brighter Smiles, Inc. accepts BadgerCare / Forward Health insurance only. Charitable care can be offered for those students who do not have the financial resources to access dental care. Services are provided during the school days throughout the district buildings. The program is open to all students in the district 4K through 12th grade.

Students who have food allergies, including peanut, tree nut, and gluten, can receive a special meal based on an approved menu to address their specific dietary needs. The allergen menu is dietician approved and runs on a rotating basis. The menu is aimed at gluten, peanut, and tree nut allergens, not dairy or egg. These meals cannot be altered from the stated menu.

A required Special Diet Statement form is linked below. Once Taher Food Service receives the completed form, including a healthcare provider’s signature, they will communicate with the family and how to order the meals and share appropriate contact information for the particular school.

Taher staff will also notify both the student's teacher and their school health office on the first day a student is taking a dietary meal so one of them can be present to guide the student through their first pick-up.

Kindergarten Eye Health Exam Report               (Spanish)
The Waunakee Community School District partners with the local Lions Club who performs vision screenings on students grades 4K-4 each year. Although a formal eye exam is not required for Kindergarten entry, the State of Wisconsin encourages parents of Kindergartners to arrange for their child’s eyes to be examined by an optometrist or evaluated by a physician by December 31 of the child’s first year in school.
