2025 Prairie Art Show

Thank you to Ms. Gavigan and all of our Prairie artists for a spectacular art show! Families enjoyed viewing all of the hard work and creativity our students have been incorporating into their art projects this year. The Glow Room was new this year and definitely a highlight of the night. Thank you for continuing to support our Prairie artists!

High school students are reading to small groups of 3rd grade students. There are three groups of students and readers in this classroom.

Members from the Waunakee High School Black Student Union (BSU) read to some of our 3rd and 4th grade students. The students selected children’s books that represented themselves. The Prairie students really enjoyed the visits as they learned more about their individual stories. Many of the members of the BSU were either Prairie alumni or had a family connection to Prairie.

Students and families participating in a variety of STEAM learning and activities. There are marble runs being added a a classroom wall, students building with cardboard, using catapults to launch cotton balls, CD marker spinners and learning about solar energy.

Youth Art Month Students

Congratulations to Kenora Legler, Beckham Garcia-Heinrich, and Liv Lefebvre (Heritage Elementary) Lena Hylden, Paige Larson, and Wesley Bartnick (Prairie Elementary) for being selected as our Youth Art Month representatives. Their artwork will be displayed in Madison for the Regional and State Youth Art Month exhibits. Youth Art Month is celebrated during the month of March to emphasize the value of art ant art education for all children. Since 1961, Youth Art Month has been a way to show how Art education develops self esteem, appreciation of the work of others, self-expression cooperation with others and critical thinking skills. All theses skills are vital to the success of our future leaders, our children. Best of all, Art is FUN!

2024-2025 Prairie Battle of the Books Participants

Prairie Elementary's Battle of the Books participants are up for the challenge! Each year, Prairie fourth graders are invited to participate in our WCSD Elementary Battle of the Books. For our Battle, we choose 12 of the titles from the state-wide Battle of the Books, which is organized by the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA) as a way to encourage students to read a range of high-quality literature, including picture books, novels, and nonfiction. These students formed teams to divvy up the reading and will soon be ready to compete to see who can identify the titles and authors based on details from the books.
